During an extended visit to the Southern Appalachian Mountains of East Tennessee, I experienced the joy of observing God’s ways in a lovely natural setting. The intricate handiwork of His creation provided a beautiful backdrop where He illustrated His loving care.

Nearby neighbors became close friends and frequent visits to their log home were filled with laughter, great food and times of sharing with each other about the goodness of God. The view from their mountaintop setting  was awe inspiring, with vistas extending for miles and miles over the rolling ridges.

From the deck we could observe weather systems moving in from far away, some bringing intense lightening storms with heavy wind and rain. From that vantage point, we had ample warning to move to shelter before a storm arrived, as well as inform other neighbors who didn’t live on higher ground.

It reminded me that from God’s viewpoint, He can always see when the storms of life are approaching and will always direct us to safety and provide protection. We also watch over one another with loving care and speak up when we see the enemy approaching. God’s intention is that we never live in fear or uncertainty regarding any aspect of our lives. He will always provide a way for us to be free from anxiety and harm, but we must keep our eyes and hearts open to Him and listen to His voice. He desires that our faith will grow and our trust in Him will become firmly established.

Psalm 91:1-2

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High
will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
This I declare about the Lord:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
he is my God, and I trust him.

From that mountaintop view we also enjoyed spectacular sunsets that words could not describe, although we tried.  They were always a reminder of God’s faithfulness and an assurance that the morning would bring another beautiful sunrise and another day to praise God with our whole heart for His loving kindness and tender mercies!

Psalm  59:16-17

But as for me, I will sing about your power.
Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love.
For you have been my refuge,
a place of safety when I am in distress.
O my Strength, to you I sing praises,
for you, O God, are my refuge,
the God who shows me unfailing love.
